Having a flat bicycle tire is no longer a problem of yours if you own a set of the Energy Return Wheels, designed by Brian Russell of Britek Tire and Rubber. These airless bicycle tires feature a new type of technology where rubber has been stretched over a series of carbon nano tube reinforced composite rods that were designed to provide the same cushioning as traditional, air-filled tired would provide. But…the best part is that the rods can be adjusted to allow the tension of the rubber to adapt to different road conditions and rider strengths. We are pretty impressed with the innovation here – imagine never having to pump your low tire or replace a tire that ran over a nail? Amazing, indeed. We can already hear cyclists rejoicing around the world. And don’t worry, Russel is considering adding thin sidewalls to this prototype to ensure that mud and trail debris does not accumulate in the cavities.
